What is Medigap?

Medigap insurance exists to fill the “gaps” in Original Medicare Plan coverage. That's where it gets its name. Medigap is a supplemental insurance to Medicare that helps pay some of the health care costs that the Original Medicare Plan does not cover. A Medigap Insurance policy can help pay some of the remaining health care costs Medicare does not cover, like copayments, coinsurance and deductibles.

Basic Things to Know About Medigap Policies

When you buy a Medigap policy you must have Medicare Part A and Part B. You will have to pay the monthly Medicare Part B premium, and also pay a premium to the Medigap insurance company.
A Medigap policy only covers one person. If both you and your spouse want Medigap coverage, each of you will have to buy separate policies.
